its one of the largest and most well known web 2.0 site ranking services, as well as having an impressive rss aggregation system for bloggers.

Assuming you’re using Wordpress, just drop this list into your configuration. Look under Settings -> Writing -> Update Services.

Just make sure that you don’t leave pingomatic in the list. It’s the default service within Wordpress, but relays your pings to other services.

Most other blog platforms have a way to set up your ping services, but you’ll have to dig if you use something other than Wordpress.

I’m kind of new to all of this. If this question is too basic, I apologize. After trying to follow four or five links in the list and having them all come up unavailable, I have to assume that I can’t use my browser to submit my blog to these ping sites. Is there some special ping software I’m supposed to be using?

I suppose the best way to do this would be to do the automatic ping then see which servers show the post. I’ll put this on my to-do list.

Great resource, though it would be extra helpful if you could indicate which ping servers require a manual first visit

@Valentin – Not at all. Some of the servers just require you to visit their site and paste your URL into a form and click “submit” before they will accept any automated pings from your site. It’s just there way of slowing down the sploggers.

Hi Kelly, great content. Are you saying that doing some more “hand” work pinging might produce better results? You are probably right as all those set and forget ideas do not usually perform as described. Great list! Thank you for sharing!
